The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi increases number of awards

Submitted by Joelle Pitts

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is the oldest and most selective all-discipline honor society in the U.S., and awards more than $1 million every two years to outstanding students, Phi Kappa Phi members and chapters. Beginning this year, the society will increase the number of awards by $125,000 in the following categories.

• Dissertation Fellowships: The Dissertation Fellowship Program, introduced in 2014, will now offer 10 Dissertation Fellowships at $10,000 each. Up from two fellowships each year, the program supports doctoral candidates who are completing their dissertations. The application period opens Oct. 1.

• Love of Learning Awards: The Love of Learning Program will now offer 200 awards at $500 each. The increase in awards, up from 160, will go into effect with session A on Dec. 15. Session B of the program is currently open and will close Oct. 1. Love of Learning Awards help fund post-baccalaureate studies and career development for active members including graduate or professional studies, doctoral dissertations, continuing education, career development and travel related to teaching and studies. One hundred awards will be distributed during each session.

• Study Abroad Grants: The Study Abroad Grant will now offer 75 awards at $1,000 each. Up from 50 grants each year, the Study Abroad Program supports undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. Fifty awards will be offered during session A and 25 grants will be offered during session B. Applications are currently being accepted for session B. The deadline to apply is Sept. 15.

Phi Kappa Phi also will continue to maintain its previous level of support for several other prominent programs, including the Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship and Phi Kappa Phi Literacy Grant.
