TLC Professional Development Series: Micro and macroaggressions

Submitted by Ashley A. Schiffer

As part of the Teaching and Learning Center's Professional Development Series, Doris Carroll will present a Need To Know event titled, "Supporting Student Success by Reducing Campus Microaggressions and Macroaggressions" from noon to 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 17, via Zoom.

Student success is an institutional goal for all our campuses. However, campus microaggressions and macroaggressions interfere with those success efforts. This program describes the daily behavioral humiliations that communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative racial or gender slights and insults. Additionally, during this program systemic implicit and explicit biases in campus practices and decision-making will be illustrated along with suggestions to identify and manage such macroaggressions. This program encourages practical suggestions to consult, collaborate and identify campus allies who together will manage microaggressions and macroaggressions.
