Modern languages professor publishes article on woman pioneer of Mexican cinema.

María Teresa DePaoli, associate professor of modern languages, published "The Dynamics of the Mother Archetype in Mexcan Cinema Shaped by Women: Analysis of Pioneer Matilde Landeta's Screenwriting and Film Directing of 'La negra Angustias'" in the Journal of Pan African Studies, July 2013.
Landeta is the most prolific of the Mexican women-screenwriter pioneers. The article focuses on her screenplay adaptation of Francisco Rojas González's novel "La negra Angustias" in 1944, as well as on her direction of the film in light of two of the most prominent feminine archetypes in Mexican culture: "the mother" and "the soldadera."
