Learn how to create respectful working relationships Aug. 9

Submitted by Gina Lowe

Michelle White-Godinet, assistant director of affirmative action, will offer another session of "Creating Respectful Working Relationships" from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, in Room 213 at the K-State Student Union.

Respectful working relationships and respectful workplaces are integral components to increased productivity, teamwork and morale. The purpose of the session is to create an awareness of the needs of others in order to accept and acknowledge how their needs differ from our own needs. The skills learned in their session will contribute to the minimization of negative conflict and subsequently discrimination, harassment and retaliation complaints.

By the end of the session you should be able to:

  • Explain the importance of respectful relationships and respectful workplaces.
  • Identify some causes of interpersonal conflict.
  • Discuss communication skills that promote respectful relationships and respectful workplaces.
  • Identify K-State resources to address interpersonal conflict.

The instructional methods utilized in the session include: lecture, discussion, video presentation and role-playing.

Registration can be completed through HRIS self-enrollment, WTD125 session 25, or by emailing your name, employee ID number, course title and session number to training@k-state.edu.
