Submitted by Tara Fronce

Following a national search, Shanna Legleiter has been selected as the chief human resources officer at Kansas State University.

Legleiter assumed her new title on Sept. 18. She previously served as the interim chief human resources officer at K-State. Legleiter reports to Ethan Erickson, vice president for administration and finance.

"The Next-Gen strategic plan includes bold plans for transforming and supporting K-State's workforce," Erickson said. "I am excited for the future of human resources at K-State under Shanna's leadership. I look forward to working together to advance our workforce and to modernize our HR policies, procedures and technologies."

As chief human resources officer, Legleiter is responsible for leading and managing the Division of Human Resources and providing oversight for human resources functions across all campuses. She will lead the development and implementation of universitywide directions for recruitment, retention and succession strategies; organizational development and training initiatives; compensation; performance management; employee relations; and the management of human resources systems.

"I am beyond thrilled to lead the Division of Human Resources and work with such a caring and dedicated team of professionals," Legleiter said. "As we continue to examine what it means to be an employer of choice, we have great opportunities to elevate our HR functions in bold ways and create modernized approaches and alignment across the university. I look forward to collaborating with all K-State employees to build and sustain our next-generation land-grant workforce."

Legleiter, who joined K-State in 2014 as a learning and development manager, established a supervisory program for K-State's supervisory workforce. She was named associate vice president for human resources in 2019, where she oversaw the areas of talent acquisition, compensation and organizational effectiveness as well as learning and development. Before joining K-State, Legleiter spent time at Barton Community College as a full-time instructor and coordinator of business programs.

Legleiter earned an associate degree in office technology from Barton Community College, a Bachelor of Science in organizational management and leadership from Friends University and a Master of Science in business education from Emporia State University. She holds a variety of certifications, including Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Lean Six Sigma yellow belt, Intercultural Development and Korn Ferry Leadership Architect and Voices 360. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and College and University Professional Association of Human Resources where she currently serves as past president for the Midwest Region Board.
