Voice professor releases recording of commissioned works

Submitted by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance

Rosine

Amy Rosine, soprano and professor of music, has released a recording of commissioned works by American composer Gwyneth Walker with her Sorores Duo partner, Sandra Mosteller, and pianist Gail Novak.

With funds from a generous Faculty Development Grant, they commissioned and recorded two cycles: "Emily! - From New England," and "No Ordinary Woman!" The ensemble premiered "No Ordinary Woman!" at the 2022 International ClarinetFest and also presented selections from both cycles at the College Music Society Great Plains Regional Conference in March 2022.

The grant also supported Walker's residency with the School of Music, Theatre and Dance in March 2022. From the liner notes: "As Sorores Duo looked to commission and record music written by, written for, written about, and performed by women, we were thrilled to work with American composer Gwyneth Walker, with her music's beauty, reverence, drama, and humor. As the commissioning project progressed, it became obvious that Walker's music, with its rich and accessible language, needed to be celebrated."

The recording was released through the Soundset Label and is available on most digital platforms, including Spotify.

The Sorores Duo has been described as having "an expansive and lush sound" and "beautiful alignment of virtuosic lines and articulations" by Sarah Manasreh, The Clarinet 2021.
