Police officer trainee Todd Turner recently graduated with the 223rd class of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in Hutchinson. Turner graduated in the Top 10 of his class.

The training is a 14-week, 560-hour classroom and practical training program. The training consisted of studies such as criminal law, crime scene investigations, use of force, defensive tactics, interviews and interrogations, traffic codes, crime prevention, report writing, marksmanship with firearms, emergency vehicle operation, physical training, accident investigations, courtroom testimony, and vehicle stops.

Turner will now be part of the 12-week field-training program at the K-State police department, where veteran certified field training officers will mentor him on various policies and procedures. They will work with him on applying the skills he acquired at the academy.

"The amount of training officers receive both at the academy and here at our agency reflects the professionalism and commitment that is required to become a police officer," says Ronnie Grice, assistant vice president for public safety.

Turner is originally from Emporia and received his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Emporia State University in 2010.
