Goins featured artist for Prairiewood Jazz Series
University Distinguished Professor and Director of Jazz Studies Wayne Goins led a jazz quintet in a packed-house performance Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Prairiewood Retreat & Reserve in Manhattan.
In the third concert in the series led by Nate McClendon, Goins was chosen as the main attraction and he delivered a two-hour set of well-crafted arrangements of jazz tunes performed by his hard-swinging jazz combo, which included Richard Smith on rhythm guitar, Robert Rodriguez on drums and Michael T. Brown on bass. Goins also featured female vocalist Susan Hancock who performed songs during the second set of the show.
Goins has performed with such greats as legendary guitarist Kenny Burrell, alto saxophonist Bobby Watson, trumpeter Clark Terry, tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano, organist Jimmy McGriff and many others. He has authored a severral award-winning books and articles. Learn more about Goins.
