Travis Linnemann receives book award

Submitted by David Ollington

Travis Linnemann, associate professor of sociology, is this year's recipient of the American Society of Criminology's Division on Critical Criminology and Social Justice Book Award.

His 2022 book, "The Horror of the Police," published by the University of Minnesota Press, was found by the award committee to "make a substantial contribution to the studies of policing and popular culture and to effectively push the boundaries of critical criminological thought."

"The Horror of Police" is Linnemann's fourth book. His first, "Meth Wars: Police, Media, Power," a culmination of his doctoral work at K-State, was published by New York University Press in 2016. Linnemann's next book project is co-authored with a colleague at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and will be published by New York University Press sometime next year.

The American Society of Criminology will recognize Linnemann at its annual meeting in November.
