GROW workshop helps middle school girls learn crime-solving techniques

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Middle school-age girls will help solve a mystery that has taken place on campus during a special session offered by Kansas State University's GROW, Girls Researching Our World, program.

CSI, Crime Scene Investigation will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4. The special session and the GROW program are sponsored by the university's office for the advancement of women in science and engineering. GROW introduces middle school girls to the science, technology, engineering and mathematical fields.

University faculty and students from the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Agriculture and Human Ecology will provide hands-on activities that show how people in forensic science fields use math, science and engineering to solve mysteries and crimes.

"Students will collect evidence from the crime scene to solve our own campus mystery," said Yasche Glass, program coordinator for the office for the advancement of women in science and engineering. "The ending will shock and amaze attendees and parents."

Registration is still open for this event until Wednesday, May 1.

For additional information, call Glass at 785-532-6088 or visit the GROW website.
