KSRE local foods systems group to host statewide virtual town hall on July 27

Submitted by Londa Nwadike

The Kansas State Research and Extension local foods transdisciplinary team invites anyone interested to the next statewide quarterly local food systems virtual town hall from 11 a.m. to noon. Wednesday, July 27.

The goal of the meeting is for people working in the area of local food systems across Kansas to be able to share what they are working on related to local food systems and learn what other organizations are doing so that we all can work together to strengthen local food systems in Kansas.

The agenda for the July 27 virtual town hall includes:

Five-minute presentations by:

  • Rial Carver, 2022 Rural Grocery Summit recap; Lauren Schaumberg, Mid-America Regional Council-Rural Grocery Convening.
  • Nick Levendofsky, new Kansas Farmers Union executive director.
  • Tim Steffensmeier, Kansas State University, K-State 105 and local food systems.
  • Jenny Memmott, University of Kansas Center for Public Partnerships and Research.

Open discussion about upcoming/ongoing local food systems-related grants in Kansas:

  • KSRE application for a USDA Regional Food Systems Program grant.
  • Kansas Department of Agriculture: Farm to Food Bank and Farm to School grants.
  • Anything else?

Brief announcements of upcoming local food systems events/initiatives in Kansas that will be occurring in the next few months — everyone is welcome to share announcements that you might have in this area.

Register to join the session for free. Please share this registration link with anyone who might be interested.
