K-State selected to participate in Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation Summer Institute

Submitted by Division of Communications and Marketing

Kansas State University has been selected to participate in the American Association of Colleges and Universities, or AAC&U, 2022 Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation Summer Institute.

The virtual institute is designed to help campus teams identify evidence-based strategies to develop a vision to end beliefs of a hierarchy of human values on campus.

“Being a part of the AAC&U 2022 Institute is an honor,” said K-State Interim Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer Be Stoney. “This opportunity will equip K-State and its constituents to become a transformational campus, build racial healing for all and learn, value and understand the humanity of others.”

Attending the institute is part of the eighth step in the university’s Action Plan for a More Inclusive K-State. This step establishes a campus team charged with initiating strategic goals to implement a truth, racial healing and transformation, or TRHT, framework through the Division of Student Life.

“Participating in the institute will provide a meaningful framework for K-State and the Manhattan community to build upon its racial equity and justice efforts and increase a meaningful sense of belonging and inclusion for our underrepresented students, faculty and staff,” said Thomas Lane, K-State vice president for student life and dean of students.

The team, led by K-State Student Union Executive Director Corey Williamson, includes representatives from the Office of the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, Division of Student Life, Office of the Provost and the Office of the Manhattan City Manager.

“I am very appreciative of the time and commitment of the TRHT Action Plan #8 team who worked to submit a successful application to AAC&U,” Williamson said. “I am greatly looking forward to engaging with the network of over 50 institutions who’ve successfully implemented TRHT Campus Centers.”

The institute will take place virtually from June 21-24.
