Reminder: KSRE Local Foods Systems group to hold statewide virtual town hall

Submitted by Londa Nwadike

The K-State Research and Extension Local Food Systems Transdisciplinary Team will conduct its quarterly, statewide local foods virtual town hall from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, April 27.

This event is an opportunity for K-State faculty and staff to connect with partners working in local food systems across Kansas, both to learn about local foods initiatives across the state and to provide an opportunity for faculty and staff to find potential partners for grant applications and other projects.

The agenda for the virtual town hall includes:

  • Five-minute presentations by Russell Plaschka, Kansas Department of Agriculture, on KDA’s Strategic Growth Initiative; Elaine Johannes, K-State Research and Extension, on Hearing Voices, Seeing Signs, connections between social determinants of health and local food; and Tori Laird with an update on the Kansas Food Framework.
  • Open discussion about upcoming and ongoing local food systems-related grants.
    • KSRE plans to apply for a U.S. Department of Agriculture Regional Food Systems Program grant.
    • Others.
  • Brief announcements of upcoming local food systems events or initiatives in Kansas that will occur in the next few months.

If interested in being added to the listserv to receive information on the town halls, please email listserv@listserv.ksu.edu with SUB KSRELOCALFOODS and your name in the body of the email.
