College of Arts and Sciences names recipients of the Faculty Enhancement Program award

Submitted by Laura Hohenbary

The College of Arts and Sciences has announced recipients of the Faculty Enhancement Program award.

The purpose of the program is to increase the numbers and proportion of faculty members engaging in research, scholarship and creative activities, particularly those with the potential for garnering extramural funding and recognition. The program provides up to $10,000 each for faculty in disciplines that have not historically enjoyed access to substantial start-up packages or extramural funding opportunities.

The following are the awardees and their project titles:

• Valerie Bostwick, assistant professor of economics, for "The Effect of Academic Calendar on Faculty Productivity."

• Tianjun Sun, assistant professor of psychological sciences, for “Validity examination of machine learning-based selection personality assessment across high- and low-stakes contexts.”

• Anan Wan, assistant professor in the A.Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications, for “Impulsive Buying and Post-Purchase Cognitive Dissonance: How Live Streaming Shopping Influences Consumers’ Well-Being.”

• Colleen White, assistant professor in the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, for “Scheherazade Music Festival.”

Tenure-earning faculty members within three years of hire were eligible to apply for funding for summer salary and other research and scholarly support. Applicants identified a particular project culminating in a scholarly work that would enhance their ability to compete for extramural funding. The funding provided by the program will be complemented by mentoring from a senior colleague at K-State or elsewhere.
