MasterClass makes three-part class Black History, Black Freedom and Black Love available for free

Submitted by Stefan Yates

Be Stoney, interim chief diversity and inclusion officer, in partnership with Don Saucier, faculty associate director of the Teaching and Learning Center, encourage all K-Staters to experience the free MasterClass, Black History, Black Freedom and Black Love, available on Amazon’s free streaming service, IMDb TV. It will also be available to all U.S. Prime members on Prime Video.

This three-part, 54-lesson class examines the past, present and future of race relations in America. Taught by Jelani Cobb, Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw, Angela Davis, Nikole Hannah-Jones, Sherrilyn Ifill, John McWhorter and Cornel West, all three parts of Black History, Black Freedom and Black Love are now available on the MasterClass platform.

"Black History, Black Freedom and Black Love is the most important and comprehensive class MasterClass has ever created," said David Rogier, founder and CEO of MasterClass. "This class teaches us how to build a society that honors Black voices, love and joy—lessons everyone can and should hear, which is why, for the first time ever, we are making a full class available for free on MasterClass.com."

Stoney and the Teaching and Learning Center encourage all K-Staters to take part in this learning opportunity to help us all better understand how we came to where we are today as a society and what we can all do to encourage diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in our community. During MLK Observance Week in January Adrian Miller, James Beard Award-winning chef, presented a keynote speech on the rich history of soul food and its origination that provided an insight into Black history and traditions and this these MasterClass will help K-State to continue to build its institutional knowledge on these important cultural topics.
