Office of Student Success recruiting SPARK instructors for spring

Submitted by Office of Student Success

The Office of Student Success is recruiting engaging K-State instructors with high-support classroom experience and a commitment to academic success to apply to teach SPARK — Second Opportunity for  Academic  Refocus at  K-State — this spring.

Applications may be submitted until Nov. 26 and can be found on the Academic Achievement Center website under employment opportunities. Interviews will take place between Dec. 6-8.

Interested candidates may submit their materials for consideration by filling out our SPARK instructor application. We ask for a resume and a 400-word personal statement that speaks to your qualifications for this role.

We are looking for candidates who meet the following qualifications for the position:

  • Demonstrated experience with high-engaging classroom instruction.
  • A professional commitment to student success.
  • A willingness to develop a coaching approach for one-on-one student meetings, including coaching tools and skills.

SPARK is a program for first-year students who earned less than a 1.0 GPA during their first semester at K-State and were dismissed. The SPARK provides the opportunity for students to be readmitted immediately with Student Success support instead of waiting the required two semesters for readmission.

The SPARK Program equips students to build academic success tools, stay on track to graduation, and develop skills for college and career. Students are enrolled in a three-hour Academic Refocus Seminar with embedded academic coaching and a learning assistant.

Questions may be directed to the SPARK coordinator, Jess Kerr at jpkerr@k-state.edu
