Job Summary:
AAC Tutoring Services is a free service to all K-State students taking courses at K-State. Peer tutors help facilitate the learning process outside of a formal classroom structure and tutoring focuses on the success of the learning process as a whole. They are a vital part to many K-State students’ academic careers as they assist students to succeed academically. Peer tutors are needed for a variety of courses and one tutor may hold several tutoring sessions a week in a variety of courses.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist students with course content and academic strategies.
- Facilitate the learning process instead of providing direct answers.
- Be a productive study partner.
- Consult on how students can customize study tools and techniques to fit their individualized preferences.
- Make referrals to other student success resources such as Academic Coaching.
- Help students prepare for tests and exams
Qualifications:
Must be a Kansas State University undergraduate student enrolled in at least 6 hours- Must maintain a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Must have received a “B” or better at K-State in the courses you wish to tutor and knowledgeable about course tutored
- Exhibit responsibility, positive attitude, confidence, flexibility, strong energy levels, and excellent communication skills.
- Enthusiastic about building academic skills and helping others.
- Understanding of students with different needs, interests, and abilities
Subject Areas Needed:
We hired tutors in a variety of subject areas. High need subject areas include but are not limited to: Accounting, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Animal Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Finance, Geology, Geography, Kinesiology, Math, Management, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Statistics
Reference Requirement:
To be eligible for this position, you must have a reference from a content expert for each subject area (ex: Math, Accounting, Music, etc.) that you intend to tutor. A content area expert can be a former high school teacher, professor, academic advisor, university supervisor, etc.-- someone who can speak to your content expertise and ability to communicate in the content area.
Job Summary:
Student Office Assistants will work in Hale Library and/or Holton Hall 101 to provide high quality care and support to students by helping to connect them to Academic Achievement Center or other student success resources.
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensure that students check in and out of tutoring or academic coaching sessions
- Schedule appointments
- Show students how to schedule their own appointments
- Inform students of cancellation and no-show policies
- Collect and record information for global campus or other tutoring requests
- Make referrals to other campus resources when appropriate
- Welcome building visitors
- Answer phones and take accurate and complete messages
- Other tasks as requested
Qualifications:
- Must be a Kansas State University student enrolled in at least 6 hours
- Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Well-organized
- Effective and consistent verbal and written communication skills
- Commitment to maintaining an inclusive environment
