Join the Office of Pre-Law Advising for the first Legal Speaker of the semester.

Chief Judge Karen Arnold-Burger will present "Voting Rights and the Law" at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, on Zoom. Register here to add to your calendar.

As part of the annual Constitution Day celebration, we will host the Hon. Karen Arnold-Burger, chief judge of the Kansas Court of Appeals, to discuss a central tenet of our democracy and legal system: voting rights and responsibilities. As voting restrictions continue to be litigated both in Kansas and across the nation, it is essential that we appreciate the importance of voting as a right to all citizens.

Arnold-Burger was appointed to the Kansas Court of Appeals in 2011 and as chief judge of that court in 2017. Before that, she served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Kansas and presiding municipal judge for the city of Overland Park for more than 20 years. In 2018, she was appointed by the chief justice of the Kansas Supreme Court to chair the statewide pretrial justice task force. A prolific and generous legal speaker, Arnold-Burger has been recognized for her service and teaching by many legal institutions, including the American Bar Association and the National Judicial Council.
