A recent paper by Dunja Peric, associate professor of civil engineering, and her doctoral student Arash Saeidi Rashk Olia published in the International Journal of Geomechanics is the most read paper for March 2021, according to the journal website

The paper, "Thermomechanical Soil–Structure Interaction in Single Energy Piles Exhibiting Reversible Interface Behavior," is the outcome of Peric's ongoing research on energy foundations. Energy piles are sustainable multifunctional deep foundations that support buildings while exchanging thermal energy with shallow subsurface. They rely on use of renewable thermal energy, which is stored in shallow subsurface, for mostly supplemental space heating and cooling.
