Kansas State Polytechnic offering UAS image collection and data processing training

Submitted by Kirsten Zoller

Kansas State University's Polytechnic Campus is offering a three-day course March 10-12 on using unmanned aircraft systems to collect high-quality imagery, processing that imagery into 2D and 3D models, and how to incorporate that data into a geographic information system.

During this three-day introductory course, attendees will learn proper camera settings and mission planning, participate in hands-on flight operations, and spend time working with leading structure from motion software to process and analyze images collected from drones.

Attendees will be able to do the following at the conclusion of this course:

  • Understand imaging sensors, camera settings, the electromagnetic spectrum and camera modifications.
  • Understand mission planning for precision mapping, vegetation analysis and 3D modeling.
  • Understand implementing ground control points and other means of spatial control.
  • Process data related to precision mapping, vegetation analysis and 3D modeling.
  • Recognize the advantages of Agisoft Metashape (Photoscan), Pix4DMapper and ArcGIS.

Instruction is led by Kansas State Polytechnic's nationally recognized UAS program. Kansas State Polytechnic was named the second-place winner in the training and education category of the 2019 XCELLENCE Awards by the Association for Unmanned Vehicles Systems International. The award recognizes the valuable training offered and the effect Kansas State Polytechnic has on the UAS industry.

Registration for the course is open now and available online. A 50% fee discount is available to K-State faculty and staff.
