Sanderson appointed editor-in-chief of Agriculture and Human Values

Submitted by Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work

Matthew R. Sanderson, the Randall C. Hill distinguished professor of sociology, anthropology, and social work and professor of sociology, has been selected as editor-in-chief of Agriculture and Human Values, a leading outlet for international and interdisciplinary research on the cultures and social structures of agricultural systems.

Agriculture and Human Values is the official journal of the Agriculture, Food, and Human Values Society, and like the society, it is committed to open discussions of the values that shape, and the structures that underlie, current and alternative visions of food and agricultural systems.

Sanderson is welcomed by the outgoing editor-in-chief of the journal, Harvey S. James Jr., professor of agricultural economics and associate director of the Division of Applied Social Sciences at the University of Missouri, Columbia:

"Agriculture and Human Values will soon begin its 37th year. As editor-in-chief of the journal for 13 years, I have a vested interest in ensuring that the new editor appreciates the journal's status in the academic community and has a vision for its continued growth and impact. In our search for a new editor, the selection committee wanted someone with editorial experience, a reputation as a competent scholar, and a desire to lead a leading journal. This is why I am thrilled that Dr. Matthew Sanderson has been appointed as the new editor-in-chief of Agriculture and Human Values. I see him as an ideal fit for this role, and I am fully confident that the journal will thrive under his leadership."

Sanderson is also welcomed by the president of the Agriculture, Food, and Human Values Society, Molly D. Anderson, the William R. Kenan Jr. professor of food studies at Middlebury College:

"The Agriculture, Food and Human Values Society is delighted to welcome Matthew Sanderson as the new editor-in-chief of our journal, Agriculture and Human Values. Agriculture and Human Values has been in publication since 1984 and has an impact factor now of 3.128. It is recognized as one of the best interdisciplinary journals dealing with food consumption, production and sustainability; and it is one of the most exclusive social science journals, accepting only 10% or fewer of submitted manuscripts. Matt came forward in a national search as the best-qualified candidate as editor-in-chief, and we look forward to working with him!"

Amit Chakrabarti, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences commented on the arrival of the journal: "Dr. Sanderson sets an excellent example for those interested in pursuing interdisciplinary research. He is a great choice as editor-in-chief, and the College of Arts and Sciences is proud to claim him as one of our own."

Sanderson will assume the editorship on Jan. 1, 2020, with volume 37 of the journal.
