K-State Theatre summer camp success

Submitted by Jennifer G. Vellenga

K-State Theatre and Manhattan Parks and Recreation partnered for the first time to deliver an all-day theatre camp for youth on the K-State campus.

The students participated in all aspects of putting on a show and performed in the musical, "HOW TO EAT LIKE A CHILD (and Other Lessons in Not Being a Grown Up)" by Delia Ephron, Judith Kahan and John Forster on July 19 and 20 at the Purple Masque Theatre.

For seven weeks, more than 40 campers in grades first through ninth attended morning classes in acting, music, dance, design and playwriting, and spent the afternoons rehearsing and building scenery and props. Classes were taught by faculty, students and alumni in the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance.

With the success of the program, it is expected to continue in the summer of 2020.
