Urban Food Systems Program to screen 'Farmers for America' on K-State's Olathe Campus

Submitted by Heather Woods

All are invited to a free public screening of "Farmers for America" as part of the Food for Thought Film Series at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at K-State's Olathe Campus, 22201 W. Innovation Drive. The average age of the U.S. farmer is 60. Who will step up to feed America? "Farmers for America" looks at the challenges the next generation of farmers in America are experiencing.

The screening will be followed by a panel of four who are stepping up to the plate in Greater Kansas City: Sharon Autry, KC Farm School at Gibbs Road; Zac Hoppenstedt, K-State Research and Extension-Johnson County; John Gordon Jr., Boys Grow; and Dave Redfearn, Where the Redfearn Grows Natural Farms.

View the trailer for the film.

The film will begin promptly at 6:10 p.m. with a panel discussion immediately following the film. All donations will go toward the graduate students of the Master of Science in horticulture with a specialization in urban food systems including programming, tours, community workshops and more.
