Highlights from Oct. 3 Classified Senate meeting

Jackie Hartman, chief of staff and director of community relations, attended the meeting and gave an update on the plans for the sesquicentennial celebration, which begins Feb. 14, 2013 and continues through homecoming.
Jennifer Gehrt, attending for Gary Leitnaker, reported that the market adjustments for this fiscal year have been implemented and will begin with the Oct. 12 paycheck. Ninety-four classified employees in 11 job classifications at K-State were affected. Changes in health insurance coverage need to be submitted by Oct. 31. Thirty points are needed from Aug. 1, 2012, to July 31, 2013, to be eligible for the health insurance discount for 2014. Health assessments will begin in January. Aon Hewitt Association, the human capital consultant hired by the university, will be meeting with various groups on campus.
Dale Billam, Janice Taggart, Lesa Reves and Kerry Jennings attended the Classified and Support Staff Council meeting at Pittsburg State University on Sept. 21. The legislative affairs committee and Classified Senate as a whole approved the position paper drafted at the meeting.
Dale Billam represented the council for a report presented to the Board of Regents.
Campus affairs committee co-chair Carol Marden met with Kathy Kugle in September to begin a redesign of the Classified Senate website. Lindsay Thompson, co-chair of the public relations committee, reported that the Facebook account for Classified Senate has been activated and can be found at www.facebook.com/KansasStateClassifiedSenate. Legislative affairs committee, as well as approving the Classified and Support Staff Council position paper, approved proposed changes to Article V, Section 3 of the by-laws regarding areas of representation, which were later approved by the whole Senate.
The alternative service committee, a campuswide committee that had been inactive for several years, has reconvened. Carol Marden is the new chair of the committee. Terri Wyrick reported that the council on parking operations will be looking at a possible increase in parking rates. Dale Billam reported that Ayers Saint Gross will be back on campus Nov. 3-5 for further meetings regarding the master plan.
