Loren Wilson named new director of information systems office
Effective June 11, Loren Wilson has been selected to fill the role of director of the information systems office. The office is a central IT support unit at K-State that installs, develops and maintains enterprise application systems in support of central administrative functions such as accounting, payroll, budget, human resources, admissions, student records, student financial assistance, facilities management, and parking.
Wilson served as interim information systems office director from July 2010 to the present. Prior to serving with the information systems office, he was the associate director in the office of mediated education, where he was responsible for planning and leading development and maintenance of the university's identity management systems and geospatial information systems; telecommunications billing and administrative systems; office of mediated education's academic systems; and the Division of Continuing Education's administrative systems. He supervised 18 full-time and 12 student staff to provide systems lifecycle support including documenting requirements, project management, development, and quality analysis.
Wilson's accomplishments include state of Kansas Project Manager Certification, and serving as project manager on the university cross-disciplinary team that won the 2007 IT Team Gold award for creating Axio 2.0, K-State's learning management system that was delivered on time and on budget in 2006.
In 2004, Wilson received the IT Gold award, which recognizes an individual who meets the criteria for the customer service, IT innovator and spirit of IT awards, plus is "extremely creative; supports and promotes effective project management practices; shows pride in IT and the university; represents IT at a department, university, or higher level; and demonstrates effective leadership ability."
Wilson earned a master's degree in computer science from Kansas State University and a bachelor's degree in music education from Kansas Wesleyan University.
