Music education faculty present poster at national research symposium

Submitted by Frederick Burrack

Jeffrey Ward, Frederick Burrack and Phillip Payne presented "Guiding Program Improvement and Imagining the Future of Music Teacher Education Through Intensified Data Analysis" at the 2017 Symposium on Music Teacher Education: Imagining Possible Futures in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The presentation shared the pilot currently being implemented in the music education program that enables the viewing of current achievement data for each assessed learning outcome via interactive dashboards and tables. This enables immediate and timely analysis by comparing data across academic year and filtering by demographic differentiations — e.g., gender, first generation, transfer status, GPA, cultural background, ACT scores — to expose commonalities or anomalies. The music education program is looking to expose learning challenges that can guide decisions on content and curricular sequence.
