A.Q. Miller School to host distinguished lecturer and former K-Stater
The A.Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications announces that a former director of the school, Everette Dennis, has been selected as a Kansas State University Distinguished Lecturer. The communication studies department is co-sponsoring the lecture.
The campus community is invited to the lecture. Dennis will speak on "Global Media in the Digital Age" at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, in the McVay Family Town Hall in the Leadership Studies Building. Dennis is dean and chief executive officer at Northwestern University in Qatar. He recently was named to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and will be inducted in fall 2017.
Dennis is professor of journalism and media management in the Medill School of Journalism and holds a joint appointment in communication studies. Before his current position, Dennis was the Felix E. Larkin distinguished professor of media and entertainment industries and director of the Center for Communications at the Fordham Graduate School of Business in New York City. He was named distinguished professor emeritus.
He also was founding president of the American Academy in Berlin and founding executive director of the Media Studies Center at Columbia University and a senior vice president of the Gannett/Freedom Forum foundations.
In 1984 Dennis led an evaluation of journalism education and created a national initiative for reform while serving as dean and professor of the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Oregon.
He was on the faculty at Kansas State University from 1968-1972 and served as interim director from 1971-1972. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon, a master's degree from Syracuse University and a doctorate from the University of Minnesota.
