Annual fire hydrant testing

Submitted by Amy Werner

Environmental Health and Safety will begin annual fire hydrant testing on Thursday, June 1, on the Manhattan campus.

Fire flow tests are conducted on hydrants to determine water availability in planning for firefighting activities, fire sprinkler systems or domestic water demand. The tests also are useful in determining the general condition of the water distribution system by detecting closed valves or wall deposits.

During testing, you may experience a fluctuation in pressure as well as discolored water. If this happens, please allow water to run until clear.

Contact Environmental Health and Safety at 785-532-5856 or safety@k-state.edu with any questions.
