Choose your destination at K-State All-University Open House
Edible insects, tightrope-walking rats and all-you-can-eat pancakes? It's that time of year again. K-State's All-University Open House will be open to the public on the Manhattan and Salina campuses from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 16.
K-State's All-University Open House is free, and gives the public and prospective students an opportunity to experience K-State firsthand. Hands-on demonstrations, entertainment, exhibits and tours offer all a taste of what the university offers. Each college puts together an assortment of educational demonstrations and activities, many of them interactive and kid-friendly. A cornucopia of food and entertainment options also will be available.
For future students, college and program representatives will be on hand to discuss K-State's more than 250 majors and options. Walking tours of the campus will leave every half hour from the admissions booth in the K-State Student Union, with the noon and 1 p.m. tours to be conducted bilingually, in both English and Spanish. Starting at 10 a.m. the Academic and Career Information Center in 14 Holton Hall offers a free online career assessment to help people evaluate their strengths and options. Sign up early as the test is limited to eight people an hour. The residence halls, Jardine Apartments, scholarship houses and K-State's Greek houses also will have information available and tours throughout the day.
Open house offers activities across campus. A glass-blowing demonstration will take place at 10 a.m. and noon in Willard Hall. Visit K-State's award-winning student radio station on the first floor of the union. The physics department will do fun demonstrations in Cardwell Hall. Ride a train from Bosco Plaza through campus and learn about the College of Engineering. Go on a pirate's treasure hunt starting at Bluemont Hall. See baby chicks and the live microorganisms from a cow's stomach in Weber Hall.
Entertainment will include Cadence, K-State's a cappella group, at 10:30 a.m., and the K-State Singers at 11 a.m., both in the quad. The Lecompton Re-enactors will perform scenes from the Civil War in period costumes at 10 a.m. and noon in the quad. On the Spot Improv will do a set at 1 p.m. at Bosco Student Plaza, and the Kansas City Marching Cobras drill team will perform around 2:15 p.m., also at Bosco Plaza.
Plenty of food will be available, and options will run the gamut from Seaton Hall's pancake feed to a sampling of insect cuisine in the Glenn Beck Dairy Barn at the university gardens.
