K-State Global Campus extends application for professional development for teaching online

Submitted by Grant Guggisberg

The deadline to apply to the K-State Online Essentials course, taught in partnership between Kansas State University Global Campus and K-State Polytechnic, has been extended to April 7.

K-State Online Essentials is a rigorous blended course that equips instructors with best practices and technology tools for online teaching and assists in developing quality online courses. The experience is for K-State faculty members who are currently teaching online courses or who plan to develop an online course during the summer.

K-State Online Essentials will meet from 9 a.m. to noon June 6-8 on the Manhattan campus. Several hands-on technology demonstrations and discussions will take place in the classroom. The remainder of the summer course will be conducted through K-State Online.

Lisa Shappee, K-State Polytechnic library director/assistant professor, has taught the course several times on the Polytechnic and Manhattan campuses. Faculty members taking the course will design a new online course or redesign an existing online course. The course covers pedagogy and best practices for teaching online while offering practical applications. Through the course, participants gain higher confidence in the ability to teach online, learning meaningful instructor-to-student and student-to-student interaction techniques.

Faculty interested in the K-State Online Essentials course can apply online. A selection process will take place in April with class participants receiving notification by May 5.
