Faculty, students invited to participate in Midwest Bioinformatics Conference

Submitted by Division of Communications and Marketing

The Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute is inviting Kansas State University faculty and students to participate in the upcoming second Midwest Bioinformatics Conference. The conference includes research poster sessions as well as opportunities for students to meet with potential employers in the Kansas City region.

The 2017 conference will be Thursday, April 13, and Friday, April 14, at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Faculty members and students can register to attend the conference. Registration is $25 per student and $75 per nonstudent.

The Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute, or KCALSI, advances the life sciences in the Kansas City region through collaboration, research, workforce development and commercialization. Kansas State University is a stakeholder organization with the institute.

The Midwest Bioinformatics Conference showcases practical approaches to collecting, organizing, and preparing data for a broad range of analyses applied in animal and human health. It includes guest speakers as well as presentations and poster sessions.

The conference has two goals:

1. Bring together bioinformatics-minded researchers from academia and industry to discover capabilities, share tactical approaches to problem-solving, explore synergies and launch potential collaborations.

2. Provide an opportunity for bioinformatics students to learn about employment opportunities within the region and employers to meet prospective candidates.

Additionally, interested students can submit an abstract for a poster session. The abstract submission deadline is April 7; abstracts received by March 15 will be considered for a podium presentation opportunity. Students also can participate in mock interviews with local industry professionals.
