Service-learning leaders to highlight Peace Corps, Teach For America and College Advising Corps with 'Teach, Serve, Learn' panel March 14

Submitted by Mary K. Pyle and Ana Landsverk

A panel of professionals in service-learning fields will present their stories and insights as part of "Teach, Serve, Learn" from 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, in the Berney Family Welcome Center theater.

The panel is presented by the K-State Peace Corps and hosted by the Office of International Programs' Vernon Larson Lecture Series and K-State Career Center

"Whether you are interested in serving in the Peace Corps, College Advising Corps, or Teach for America, these experts can offer advice on the career trajectory and how to incorporate service throughout a lifetime," said Rebekah Carnes, K-State Peace Corps representative.

One of the panelists, Christine Herald, began her career by teaching in the Peace Corps in Lesotho and wove service into her long tenure of teaching science to middle schoolers in USD 383. She now oversees STEM projects and outreach for the district.

"I am particularly excited to hear about how the three themes intertwine for her," Carnes said.

Carnes can be reached in her office at the K-State Career Center in the Berney Family Welcome Center or at bcarnes@k-state.edu

The Career Center, at the Berney Family Welcome Center, provides career advising, training, employment connections and resources to K-State students, alumni, faculty, administration, employers and members of the community.
