Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous hosts fall semester event Sept. 22

Submitted by Carlos Castellanos

The next Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous, LASER, a national program of evening gatherings that bring artists and scientists together for informal presentations and conversation with an audience, will be from 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art in the UMB Theater.

"Communicating Complexity," a special LASER event, will include a panel discussion on a workshop July 15 at Konza Prairie. Organized by Carol Blocksome, horticulture and natural resources department; Linda Duke, director of the Beach Museum of Art; Celka Straughn, Andrew W. Mellon director of academic programs, Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas; Rhonda Janke, horticulture, forestry and recreation resources department; and Carlos Castellanos, assistant professor of art; and others, the workshop/symposium served as a platform for regional dialog on art-science collaboration.

Blocksome, Duke and Straughn will provide a summary of activities and discuss future possibilities.

The events foster community and discussion around the intersection of art and science, serving as a platform for the dynamic cross-disciplinary conversations necessary to generate innovative ideas and perspectives. The event is free and open to the public.

The agenda includes presentations of art/science projects, news from the audience and time for casual socializing and networking.

The K-State Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous series is co-sponsored by the DX Media Lab, the College of Arts & Sciences, the art department and Leonardo International Society for the Arts, Science and Technology.

More information is available on the K-State LASER website, LASER website and Leonardo Art-Science Journal.
