Parker lectures in Norway at International Musicological Society conference
Craig B. Parker, School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, presented his paper, "Igor Stravinsky at the Ojai Music Festival," on July 5 at the International Musicological Society conference at the University of Stavanger, Norway. The theme of this year's conference was "Music as Art, Artefact, and Fact: Music Research in the 21st Century."
The conference featured more than 70 scholars from Asia, Europe and North America. Parker's paper dealt with the impact of Igor Stravinsky — the most influential classical composer of the 20th century — and his music on one of America's oldest and most prestigious music festivals. Parker's research for his Stavanger presentation was partially funded by a 2015 University Small Research Grant.
While in Stavanger, Parker also undertook research on Stravinsky and on contemporary Norwegian music at the Norsk Lydinstitutt Stavanger, or Norwegian Institute of Recorded Sound, one of the largest analog sound collections in Europe.
