Submitted by Communications and Marketing

The Kansas State University chapter of Mortar Board National Senior Honor Society received the Ruth Weimer Mount Chapter Excellence Award at the society's annual conference Aug. 1 in Phoenix.

The award is the highest possible honor given for chapter achievement and recognizes superior chapter operations, participation, selection, advising, visibility and communications. Incoming chapter president Blake Evans, senior in microbiology, Shawnee, and chapter vice president for leadership Sophia Tolentino, senior in anthropology, Manhattan, accepted the award.

Mary Hale Tolar, director of the Staley School of Leadership Studies, Steven Dandaneau, vice provost for undergraduate studies, and Tracey Bamberger, university alumna, are the chapter's advisors.

The chapter also received the Golden Torch Award for chapter excellence; a Project of Excellence Award for Reading is Leading, led by Beth Reichenberger, 2015 graduate; and K-State alumna Julie Hampl Davis was honored with the 2015 National Mortar Board Alumni Achievement Award.
