Alumnus invites support of K-State's first Wounded Warrior Scholarship
Kansas State University has a long list of resources to help military veterans navigate college and career, and that list now includes the university's first Wounded Warrior Scholarship.
Sam and Janet Peppiatt, Houston, Texas, established the scholarship with the hope that others would be inspired to provide similar help to injured veterans. The scholarship is designed to help K-State students with combat-related injuries study any curriculum at any level of higher education on the Manhattan, Salina, Olathe or K-State Global campuses.
Sam Peppiatt, a 1958 geology graduate, said he was inspired to create the scholarship after seeing veterans struggle to establish themselves in civilian life.
"I remember the sacrifices made by numerous uncles and cousins of mine during World War II and the Korean War who lacked the means and support to improve their livelihood upon returning home to civilian life," he said. "The obvious need to support some of our returning veterans and families is here again, as it was back then."
Whether in self-employment or working with others, Peppiatt hopes K-State's first Wounded Warrior Scholarship empowers veterans to become more independent and successful.
