K-State theatre students expand their own 'modern family' with trip to Los Angeles

Submitted by Ben Stark

A generous donor has given students in the theatre program at Kansas State University the opportunity to engage in research and professional development across the country.

During the 2015 spring break, eight students and two faculty members visited Los Angeles. They explored the city, toured Walt Disney Studios, participated in a behind-the-scenes look at Disneyland, visited the set of "Modern Family" and toured the Twenty-First Century Fox Studios with K-State alumnus Eric Stonestreet.

Networking experiences included seeing new plays at the Geffen Playhouse and Circle X Theatre and meeting working actors in the area.

This is the third trip K-State theatre students have taken supported by donor generosity. For spring break 2014, theatre students travel to Las Vegas where they visited alumnus Travis Cloer, starring in "Jersey Boys." Previous trips also have included outings to Kansas City and New York City. These professional development excursions give students a chance to experience the many opportunities available for performing artists. A trip to New York City is in the works for 2016.
