Saintilan to present 'Broad Scale Shifts in Vegetation in Relation to Climate Change'

Neil Saintilan, newly appointed chair of the environmental science department at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, will present the seminar "Broad Scale Shifts in Vegetation in Relation to Climate Change" at 10 a.m. Feb. 5 in 2002 Throckmorton Hall.

Saintilan is a 2014-2015 Fulbright professional scholar and is visiting Kansas State University as part of the "Oz to Oz" program linking Australian Fulbright scholars with the activities of the university. While in the United States, he is studying the impact of coastal wetlands in California on carbon sequestration.

He has worked extensively on climate change impacts and adaptation strategies in marine and freshwater environments, including water reform, sea-level rise adaptation planning and carbon sequestration in natural ecosystems. He has extensive prior experience as a government scientist working at the nexus of research, policy and environmental management. He serves on the International Blue Carbon Scientific Working group and as visiting professor at Beijing Forestry University. He completed his doctorate at the University of Sydney.
