Mechanical engineering students attend 2014 Gas Machinery Conference

Submitted by Mary Rankin

A team of mechanical engineering students from Kansas State University experienced three days of technical training and presentations by the natural gas transmission industry's leading experts, while assisting in overall operations of the 2014 Gas Machinery Conference, Oct. 6–8, in Nashville, Tennessee.

All of the student participants are either employed as lab technicians or perform undergraduate research at the Natural Gas Machinery Laboratory, an institute of the College of Engineering. The lab is home to the turbocharger test and research facility, and also is recognized for substantial research involving use of natural gas in the heating and cooling of built environment and industrial processes.

Those attending the conference were Jonathan Kuttes, Christa Hagedorn, Hayden Hager, Amanda Van Nuland, Nathan Petrie and Austin Wessel, all seniors; and Lucas Commerford, junior.

"Assisting to ensure a well-run conference is hard work, but the Gas Machinery Conference provides our students an opportunity to get a picture of the current issues affecting the industry," said Byron Jones, director of the Natural Gas Machinery Laboratory. "This exposure helps them put their work at the lab, as well as that in the classroom, into perspective."
