K-State joint Research Experience for Undergraduates poster session July 31

Submitted by Keith Rutlin

The public is invited to learn about current research activities at K-State at a research poster session from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, July 31, in the K/S Ballroom on the second floor of the K-State Student Union.

This poster session will focus on research completed by undergraduate students relating to sustainable bioenergy, sustainable energy, climate change, chemistry, biosecurity, ecology and evolutionary biology, geography and physics.

Roughly 50 poster presentations will be made by students who have participated in the Summer Academy in Sustainable BioEnergy Research Experiences for Undergraduates; the Earth, Wind, and Fire: Sustainable Energy for the 21st Century Research Experiences for Undergraduates; the Climate Change and Mitigation Research Experiences for Undergraduates program; the Chemistry Biosecurity Research Experiences for Undergraduates; Undergraduate Research and Mentoring in Ecological Genomics; and the Laser-matter Interactions at the Atomic and Nanoscales: Physics Research Experiences for Undergraduates. Each of these programs has provided research experiences for undergraduates in summer 2014.

These visiting undergraduates from across the United States have worked with faculty and graduate students from agricultural economics, agronomy, biological and agricultural engineering, biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemistry, geography, grain science and industry, physics and sociology. Funding for the summer research programs has been provided by the National Science Foundation. Poster awards, sponsored by Phillips 66, will be presented at noon for the best posters.
