Students can win scholarship money in upcoming sales competition

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Students in all majors can put their sales skills to work and earn them scholarship money. Registration for the Edward Jones Sales Competition is now open.

The Edward Jones Sales Competition will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 16 in the third floor sales lab in Calvin Hall. Registration deadline is 5 p.m. Oct. 8. Students can learn more and register here.

During the competition students will take on the role of an Edward Jones financial advisor. They will be provided with information about a prospect customer and basic financial products and will have eight minutes to do a sales pitch with a prospective buyer. The goal is to have them consider Edward Jones for their financial needs.

"Although we provide good information in the role play scenario provided to each competitor, students will need to ask questions to learn more about the prospective customer and then tailor their message to meet those needs. This will help get that second appointment," said Dawn Deeter, marketing professor and director of the National Strategic Selling Institute, which is hosting the event.

Four winners and two alternates will be chosen for the K-State National Sales Team. The winners will also receive a $500 scholarship and the alternates will receive a $250 scholarship from Edward Jones.

The winners and alternates will fly to Atlanta, Ga., for the National Collegiate Sales Competition in March 2014, all expenses paid, to compete at Kennesaw State University.

Students in all majors are encouraged to attend, but they must not graduate before spring 2014 and must be available to attend the National Collegiate Sales Competition March 28-31, 2014.
