Jason Scuilla exhibits 'Floating Toe' etching

Submitted by KSU Printmaking

Associate professor of art Jason Scuilla's "Floating Toe" etching has been selected for the International Print Center New York's New Prints Winter 2013 Exhibition. Scuilla’s etching process combines traditional hand drawing with an electrolytic etching process he has been developing at K-State. His prints are inspired by the monumental fragments of ancient sculptures in Rome, Italy.

"Floating Toe" was selected as one of 60 prints to be exhibited from over 3,000 entries. The prints featured in New Prints Winter 2013 were selected to foster a dialogue between the representational and surreal, political and imaginative, 3-D and transparent. They serve as a testament to the vivacity and creativity of printmaking throughout the world.

In order to achieve an informed and impartial selection of work of the highest quality representing a variety of artistic styles and techniques, each New Prints exhibition is juried by a selections committee appointed by the International Print Center New York. The composition of the committee varies for each round of submissions, and is made up of six individuals representing a variety of disciplines within the visual arts community including museum curators, art professionals, master printers, artists, critics and collectors.

This year’s selection committee includes Kelly Driscoll from the Pratt Institute; Ruth Lingen from Printer and Papermaker at Pace Prints and Pace Paper; Chris Santa Maria, director of Gemini G.E.L. at Joni Weyl; Lothar Osterburg, artist, master printer and professor at Bard College; Allison Rudnick, doctoral student at City University of New York Graduate Center and freelance writer for "Art in Print"; and Harriet Warm, collector.

The exhibition runs through March 9. An illustrated brochure with a curatorial essay accompanies the exhibition.
