Undergraduates present research at entomology symposium
Seventy-two undergraduates presented their research posters at a recent symposium for the undergraduate research experience program in K-State's entomology department. Two of the undergraduates have been working at the U.S. Department of Agriculture over the past year.
During the 10-week program, students worked with a faculty mentor and their respective lab to complete a research project and learn the basics of conducting science.
This year's program mentors included all faculty from the entomology department; seven scientists from the USDA Stored Product Insect and Engineering Research Unit; two faculty from the agronomy department; and one faculty member each from the departments of plant pathology, horticulture and sociology, anthropology, and social work.
While most students were from various departments in the College of Agriculture, many were from other colleges, including the College of Architecture, Planning & Design; College of Arts and Sciences; College of Education; and the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering.
The program has grown from 19 to 70 students over the past three years. Other faculty and departments are invited to join the entomology department in continuing to grow this undergraduate research experience.
