Announcing the new university budget planning and review teams

Submitted by President Richard Myers

Dear K-State Community,

Last month I announced the creation of a new university planning and oversight structure as part of our budget modernization effort. This new structure includes a university budget planning team and a budget model review panel. These two groups, reporting to the core executive team, will play pivotal roles in both continued planning and implementation of our new general use budget model over the next few years. For more information about the new structure and assignment of responsibilities to these groups, please see the high-level summary of the General Use (GU) Budget Planning & Oversight Structure (PDF).

Deans and vice presidents were asked in November to submit nominations of individuals with fiduciary responsibility in their respective areas and who are direct reports. After consultation with the core executive team, I am pleased to announce the members of the new university budget planning team:

  • Chuck Taber, provost and executive vice president and chair
  • Andy Bennett, professor and department head, mathematics
  • Mandy Cole, director, Administrative Support Center
  • Scott DeLoach, professor and department head, computer science
  • Sunanda Dissanayake, professor and associate dean, Graduate School
  • Peter Dorhout, vice president for research
  • Betsy Draper, associate vice provost, Information Technology Services
  • Lori Goetsch, professor and dean, K-State Libraries
  • Trish Gott, assistant professor and associate director, Staley School of Leadership Studies
  • Gregg Hadley, associate professor and director for extension, K-State Research and Extension
  • Craig Harms, professor and department head, kinesiology
  • Eric Higgins, professor and associate dean, College of Business Administration
  • Shanna Legleiter, director, learning and development, Human Capital Services
  • Emily Lehning, associate vice president for student life and director, New Student Services
  • Debbie Mercer, professor and dean, College of Education
  • Jeff Morris, vice president for communications and marketing
  • Christopher Smith, executive director, enrollment management and marketing services, K-State Polytechnic

The budget review panel will be co-chaired by Provost Taber and Cindy Bontrager, vice president for administration and finance. This panel includes: Spencer Wood, president, Faculty Senate; Becki Bohnenblust, president, University Support Staff Senate; Jordan Kiehl, president, Student Governing Association; and Emily Pascoe, president, Graduate Student Council. In addition, four members of the university budget planning team will serve on the panel and each governance council president will appoint an ex-officio member.

I want to thank the members of these teams for their willingness to serve the university at this critical juncture as we continue our journey to modernize our budget practices to strategically incentivize growing programs, increase revenue and maximize resources and efficiencies.

Sincerely,

Richard B. Myers
President
