Fall 2018 Raising your International Profile seminar series

The Office of International Programs announces the fall 2018 dates for the Raising your International Profile seminar series.

Created by Marcellus Caldas, assistant provost for international faculty collaboration and educational programs in the Office of International Programs, Raising your International Profile speakers will highlight those K-State faculty, staff and K-State related organizations who are doing exceptional work in our campus community to elevate the level of international awareness.

Each presentation will take place at noon in Room 305 of the K-State Student Union. 

The first presentation of fall 2018 will feature Peter Dorhout, K-State vice president for research and president of the American Chemical Society, on Wednesday, Sept. 5. 

Dorhout has a distinguished record of research, teaching, service and administration. He has experience in leading partnership worldwide. He is a member of several professional organizations, including a life member of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science and serves or has served on the board of directors for the American Chemical Society, the Research Corporation for Science Advancement.

Additional presentations:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 17 — David Procter, director of the Center for Engagement and Community Development. This presentation is perfect for visiting scholars and administrative professionals to learn more about how the center operates and connects to our region. The Center for Engagement and Community Development is a campuswide resource dedicated to providing value to both university and off-campus communities through expanded outreach and engagement. They function as liaison for groups, agencies and communities connecting with faculty to tackle development needs and opportunities in areas of economic development, community coaching, public health, entrepreneurship, arts development, environmental stewardship and community visioning.
  • Thursday, Nov. 1 — Vara Prasad, university distinguished professor of agronomy and director of the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Collaborative Research on Sustainable Intensification. The crop physiology and ecology program has state-of-the-art research facilities and equipment to provide best learning experience for students, researchers and visiting scientists.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 14 — Ken Williams, director of licensing and director of business development, food and ag products sector at the K-State Institute for Commercialization. This presentation also is perfect for visiting scholars and administrative professionals to learn more about how the center operates and connects to our region. The K-State Institute for Commercialization is dedicated to the start up and expansion of technology-based, high-growth enterprises and enabling the commercialization of university and underutilized corporate intellectual property. The organization helps entrepreneurs commercialize intellectual property emanating from basic research at Kansas State University.

"This series is perfect for those who are interested in learning more about Kansas State-related organizations and associations who extend our university reach beyond the classroom and create partnerships outside of our campus," Caldas said. "This series compliments the existing Vernon Larson Lectures also presented by the Office of International Programs to better inform our community of the the many international initiatives undertaken by our university."
