TLC Bi-Weekly Newsletter for Tuesday, October 31st, 2023
Good morning, K-Staters!
Happy Halloween! We are now in Week 11 of the Fall 2023 semester, and the Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) would like to remind you of our commitment to support your efforts in teaching, mentoring, and advising. We are excited to announce the various priorities, events, and resources that are designed to advance teaching and learning at K-State. This video explains what the TLC can do for you.
Online Graduate Certificate in Digital Media for Educators
The College of Arts and Sciences and College of Education are launching an online graduate certificate in Digital Media for Educators. This certificate is designed for teachers, administrators, and graduate students who want to advance their skills and confidence in digital realms. To earn the certificate, there is a 15-hour program that includes some required courses (e.g., Social/Cultural Issues in Educational Technology, Educational Technology Change Management, Evaluating Educational Media Products and Digital Media Audiences and Analytics) and one elective course (e.g., Communication and Technology, Strategic Communications Management and Social Media Data Visualization). Classes will begin next semester, but students can apply to the program now. Click here for the K-State Today announcement about this.
The Teaching Professor Conference
The Teaching Professor Conference will be June 7-9th, 2024 in New Orleans, LA. The conference will include plenary sessions and workshops where numerous teaching strategies and philosophies will be shared. Although abstract submission is closed, you can still register to attend.
Programs & Events
We look forward to another semester of our Professional Development (PD) Series, and, again, these events will occur on Wednesdays at 12 noon via Zoom. All events are free, and no registration is required. As we finalize our PD Series, we will post the schedule on the Upcoming Events page of our website and on our social media: Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
- On Wednesday, November 1st (tomorrow!), we will host a Teaching CHAT. The primary topic for this session will be peer observation and other ways to improve teaching. Feel free to bring ideas, questions, or concerns to crowdsource answers or to just sit back and listen. We hope to see you there!
- The TLC book club will read & discuss Cathy Davidson and Christina Katopodis’ The New College Classroom (2022). Join us on Friday, November 3rd from 4-5pm at Union Station by JP’s and cover Chapter 8: "Group Work Without the Groans.” Click here for more information, including a link to register.
- On Wednesday, November 8th, Don Saucier will lead an event on Teaching Evaluations (TEVALs): 101. This session will overview the information student perception data can provide, how to interpret it, and when to make adjustments.
Also, if you are interested in earning a PD Certificate or in becoming a TLC Fellow for this academic year, check out the requirements on our website.
