TLC Bi-Weekly Newsletter for Wednesday, April 19th, 2023

Greetings, K-Staters!

We are now in the thirteenth week of the Spring 2023 semester, and the Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) would like to remind you of our commitment to support your efforts in teaching, mentoring, and advising. We are excited to announce the various priorities, events, and resources that are designed to advance teaching and learning at K-State. This video explains what the TLC can do for you.

TEVAL Reminder

As a reminder, the deadline to create an online TEVAL is May 15, but we recommend you do so now. The last day TEVALs will be offered to students is May 16. Once grades have been released, primary instructors can retrieve their TEVAL reports from Canvas.

We also recommend that you and your students view the following video explaining the importance of TEVALs and how students can provide useful feedback for faculty. We also have another video resource to help you set up your TEVALs on Canvas.

If you have additional questions, please contact the TLC at 785-532-7828 or teachingandlearning@k-state.edu.

Highlighted Teacher

Nate quote graphic

Our highlighted teacher this week is Nate McClendon, Museum Specialist at Beach Museum of Art. Having taught in the public schools for over twenty years, his role now involves engaging both KSU students and the Manhattan community. Using art as a catalyst for engaging critical thinking and communication skills, he works with professors to provide unique and broad perspectives to their classes. Also a musician, Nate created the YouTube video series “Hear What I’m Seeing?” and the presentation “Gordon Parks: Self Portrait” which provide new ways of experiencing the museum’s collection. Whether teaching, performing, or presenting, Nate is about personal connection. “Like most things, education is about human interaction. While one can learn in isolation, true inspiration, understanding, and application is communal.” In keeping with this philosophy, he believes our most valuable assets as educators is not our knowledge but our talents, abilities, and experiences. This is how our knowledge is embodied, making teaching, and learning personal.
