Ad Astra Awards Program

The Ad Astra Intramural Grants Program, supported by the One K-State Fund, will offer two annual funding cycles, with proposals due October 1 and March 1, to provide timely, flexible support for promising and time-sensitive research opportunities.

The program includes four award categories: Launch Awards for seed projects, Thrust Awards for competitive proposal resubmissions, Orbit Awards for interdisciplinary teams, and Touchdown Awards for intellectual-property commercialization. Uncommitted funds will carry forward to the next cycle. Intentional grants management will help ensure funded projects meet research milestones and use resources effectively.

10 Seed Grants | $25K each | $250K total

  • 5 awards for proposals submitted by October 1
  • 5 awards for proposals submitted by March 1
  • Uncommitted funds roll over to the next RFP cycle

5 Awards for resubmissions | $50K each | $250K total

  • At least 2 awards available each cycle (October or March)
  • 5th award is flexible based on merit
  • Uncommitted funds roll over to the next RFP cycle

2 Interdisciplinary Teams | $250K each | $500K total

  • At least 1 award for a proposal submitted in October
  • At least 1 for a proposal submitted in March
  • Uncommitted funds roll over to the next RFP cycle

Commercialization Support | Funding TBD

  • Support for the commercialization of intellectual property
  • Administered by the Kansas State University Research Foundation and funded by licensing revenue and royalties
