Enrollment and Fee Procedure for Emergency Military Deployment

Kansas State University will provide the following options to resident and non-resident students enrolled in credit classes who are required to discontinue their attendance as a result of orders to active military duty arising from the need for a long-term TDY or emergency military deployment.

Procedures

Step 1: Complete the Proper Form(s)

Option A:

A student may drop from all classes and receive a 100% refund of tuition and fees paid (except for late fees and Military Tuition Assistance).  The student must contact the College Dean's Office for their primary academic program (plan/major) for assistance in dropping from their classes.  {Failure to drop from a class, even if no fees are owed, may result in a failing grade.}

Option B:

In consultation with the faculty members/course instructors involved, a student may elect to take an "Incomplete" - Grade of 'I" in their classes, with the ability to complete the course requirements upon their return to K-State.  Information about the Incomplete Grade process can be found in the University Handbook, F83.  {Failure to request an "Incomplete" or to Drop/Withdraw from a course(s) may result in a failing grade.}

Returning students are responsible for making arrangements with the course instructors for the completion of work for which an "Incomplete" grade has been recorded.  As an alternative to the "Incomplete" grade, other arrangements for recieving a grade and/or completing the course(s) may be made, as appropriate, thorugh the students consultation with the course instructor.

Option C:

A combination of Option A and Option B may occur, wherin the sudent may drop/withdraw from some courses and continue enrollment in those remaining.  Any refund for a course drop/withdrawal will be based on the difference between what the student initally paid and what the student would owe had they enrolled only in the remaining course(s).  Marks for continuing a course(s) will be arrived at in keeping with Option B above.

Step 2: Contact the K-State Office of Veterans Affairs or the Military Tuition Assistance Office

Students who are recieving Veteran's Educational Benefits should contact the K-State Office of Veterans Affairs at veteran@k-state.edu or by calling 785.532.7061

Students utilizing Military Tuition Assistance should contact the Military Tuition Assistance Office at militaryta@k-state.edu or by calling 785.532.0061

Students receiving other types of Student Financial Aid should contact the Office of Student Financial Assistance at finaid@k-state.edu or by calling 785.532.6420 OR you may reach out to your Financial Assistance Advisor: https://www.k-state.edu/sfa/about/advisor/

Step 3: Provide Documentation of Deployment

A student required to discontinue their attendance at K-State as a result of orders to active military duty or deployment arising from the need for a long-term TDY or Emergency Military Deployment must provide to the College Dean's Office for their primary program (plan/major) a copy of their military orders indicating such assignment.  A copy of orders may be mailed subsequent to the student's departure, or in the absence of a copy of the military orders, a written statement form the cognizant commander will be accepted.
