Powercat Financial's peer financial counselors support students while gaining career skills.

On-campus employment at Kansas State University gives students the chance to apply classroom knowledge in a professional setting while earning extra income with flexible schedules.

The Division of Academic Success and Student Affairs is one of the largest student employers on campus, offering positions in areas such as Housing and Dining Services, Recreational Services, the Academic Achievement Center and Powercat Financial. These roles, including resident assistants, tutors, peer financial counselors and social media assistants, provide valuable work experiences while supporting the K-State community.

"Powercat Peer Financial Counselors use their knowledge and training in personal finance to make a positive impact on student financial well-being through one-on-one appointments and teaching group financial workshops across campus," said Kate Melitz, executive director of Powercat Financial. "As a result of their time with Powercat Financial, our peer counselors are more prepared to pursue careers that center clients, such as financial planning."

Students can explore on-campus opportunities through their free Handshake account, available via the K-State Career Center. After creating a profile, students can search and apply for part-time jobs on campus. For help with resumes, job searches or interview prep, visit the Career Center website or schedule an appointment with Career Center staff.
